Godfathers Win at Myrtle Beach, 10-2
|
The Myrtle Beach Seahawks took it on the chin, losing 10-2 to the Pontiac Godfathers. Lonnie Burton, who is tied for 3rd in the SA in strikeouts with 78, pitched a strong game for Pontiac. The winning pitcher was Burton, now 5-3. He tossed 8.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. The loss makes Myrtle Beach 20-25.
Pontiac used a well-timed hit by Kobbe van Houwelingen to capture the win. The first baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Godfathers ahead, 6-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"We'll keep our chins up and get ready for the next game," said losing manager Tom Oglander.
