Seahawks Down Airmen, 2-1
|
The Myrtle Beach Seahawks outlasted the Alameda Airmen in an extra-inning thriller.
Alameda got a terrific performance from pitcher Phil Krause, but it wasn't enough to beat the Myrtle Beach Seahawks. Myrtle Beach won the Seahwaks Stadium contest, 2-1. Krause threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. With the win over Alameda, the Seahawks improved to 11-12.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 12th inning, when Myrtle Beach pinch hitter Jake Walshe, facing Dave O'Reilly, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Seahawks the 2-1 win.
Afterward, Seahawks manager Tom Oglander was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
