Vandals Suffer 3-1 Setback
|
The Yucca Valley Yellows went home winners at The Riot Zone, thanks in large part to starter Ken Leuthold. Leuthold stifled the Eugene Vandals, enabling Yucca Valley to grab the 3-1 win. Yucca Valley reliever Sandro Gonzáles got the win, raising his record to 4-3. Ed Lynch was tagged with the loss. The Yellows go to 39-49, putting them 8th in the Menard's A.
Yucca Valley used the timely hitting of Stephen Winters to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Yellows on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
During his postgame press conference, Yellows manager Francisco Pelaez told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
