Manatees Jolt Herons, 4-1, with Late Rally
|
The Holy City Herons got a sterling performance from pitcher Joe Johnson, but the Matlacha Manatees still prevailed, 4-1. Johnson threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball. José Zapata picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-1. Joe Adams was tagged with the loss. The 7th-place Manatees sport a record of 17-20.
Matlacha used the clutch hitting of Logan Rice to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Manatees ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
Rice called the win "a team effort."
