The Eugene Vandals went home winners at The Riot Zone, thanks in large part to starter Steve Kidd. Kidd stifled the Alaskan Bush Pilots, enabling Eugene to grab the 4-1 win. Kidd went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 0, and struck out 3. His record improves to 1-2. Ed Lynch was credited with the save for Eugene, his 2nd of the season.

The Bush Pilots had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Vandals going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old first baseman David Lakerveld came to the plate. Lakerveld hit a 3-run home run on a 1-1 fastball from Alaskan hurler Eric Edwards. It was Lakerveld's 5th home run of the year.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Eugene skipper José Cervantes.
