Screaming Eagles Best Eclipse in Pitching Duel
|
Mercer Island used a superb performance from starting pitcher Lorenzo Castillo to down the Northville Eclipse, 2-1. In 5 innings, Castillo surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. The save was credited to Jeff Cook, his 8th.
The Eclipse had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Screaming Eagles going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old shortstop Tyrone Higgins came to the plate. Higgins hit a run-scoring double on a 2-2 circle change from Northville hurler Reynaldo Hernández. It was Higgins's 11th double of the year.
"Both teams played hard," said Mercer Island manager Ricardo Vargas.
The Screaming Eagles' win now puts them at 59-39.
