The Holy City Herons did just enough to sneak past the Matlacha Manatees, 4-3, at Fuller Park. Holy City pitcher Aaron Ellicott, in particular, had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Ellicott, now 2-1. He tossed 5.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 4. The save went to Chip Moore, number 5 for him.
Holy City designated hitter Kjeld van den Burgt produced at a critical juncture. It happened in the top of the ninth with José Calderón on the mound and Holy City leading 3-2. van den Burgt hit a sacrifice fly.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Matlacha manager Peter Williams. "But we decided not to take it."
Holy City now owns a record of 14-9.
