Thunder Go Down to Defeat, 7-2
|
Benefiting from José Águila's productive game, the Bethesda Atoms downed the St. Petersburg Thunder, 7-2. Águila went 1-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Atoms. Tom Robinson, the winning pitcher, improved to 7-3. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 8 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 4. The Atoms are now 45-38, while the Thunder fall to 32-51.
Bethesda used a well-timed hit by McFlurry Beck to capture the win. The center fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Atoms ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Bethesda manager Tabor de Maria. "Our pregame was pretty good."
