Mercer Island Screaming Eagles starter Nick Johnston pitched his team past the St. Petersburg Thunder, 5-2. Jeff Cook got the save, the 3rd for him this season. Mercer Island has a record of 38-27, placing them 4th in the Premier AA.

The Thunder had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Screaming Eagles going into the top of the third inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick William Stanley came to the plate. Stanley hit a run-scoring double on a full count fastball from St. Petersburg hurler Jorge Ortíz. It was Stanley's 7th double of the year.

"Nick is still learning," said Screaming Eagles manager Ricardo Vargas. "The sky's the limit for him."
