Screaming Eagles Come Up Short at St. Petersburg, 2-1
|
Starting pitcher Greg Concepción had a solid game. He was a big reason the St. Petersburg Thunder throttled the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 2-1. Concepción, the winner, moves to 2-1. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. Ed Wheeler converted his 3rd save in 4 tries.
The Thunder got a big hit from right fielder David Robinson. In the bottom of the fifth, Robinson pounded a solo home run to left-center. His 6th home run of the season put the Thunder ahead, 2-0.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Concepción.
St. Petersburg, at 27-37, occupies 8th place in the Premier AA.
