Thunder Go 10 Innings to Beat Asheville, 3-2
|
The Thunder grabbed a win, 3-2, at Asheville Park, overcoming a fine effort from Asheville pitcher Joe Hunt. Hunt went 6 innings and allowed no runs. Lee Fortescue got credit for the save for St. Petersburg. It was his 3rd of the year. At 26-37, St. Petersburg is in 8th place in the Premier AA.
Runs were scarce in this one. So, Rob Jackson's at-bat in the top of the tenth was vitally important. With no one out, the St. Petersburg left fielder hit a sacrifice fly, to give his team a 3-2 lead.
"It was terrific getting this win," Jackson said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
