Highlanders Fall Short, 3-2, at Mercer Island
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles and the Asheville Highlanders, pitcher José Zamora was the difference between victory and defeat. The Mercer Island right-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 Screaming Eagles win. Zamora got the win, improving to 4-1. He allowed 2 hits and walked 3 over 5.2 innings. Zamora allowed 1 run. Octávio Ortíz earned the save, his 4th, for the Screaming Eagles.
Jing-quo Au-Yong, who leads the PAA in total bases with 60, contributed to the Mercer Island win with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the shortstop had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Au-Yong told the Mercer Island Herald.
