The Ithaca Fighting Imps got a stellar performance from pitcher Shigetoki Kato, who handcuffed the Asheville offense en route to a win, 4-2, at Imps Park. Kato, now 1-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 6, walking 4, and allowing 2 runs. The defeat makes Asheville 5-11.

The Highlanders had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Fighting Imps going into the bottom of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old catcher John Lake came to the plate. Lake hit a 2-run home run on a 1-2 curveball from Asheville hurler Dale Burney. It was Lake's 1st home run of the year.

Lake called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
