The Squirrel Hill Pierogis and Chesapeake Cangrejos Fantasmas played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
Squirrel Hill Pierogis starter David White turned in a sterling performance against the Chesapeake Cangrejos Fantasmas, leading his team to a slim 2-1 win. The winner in relief was Jake Baird. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-1. Getting the save was Martin Lumley, his 13th.
Had Ricardo Álvarez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Álvarez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Pierogis.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said White.
The 7th-place Pierogis have a record of 27-38.
