Pilgrims Turn Back Pierogis, 4-2
|
Starting pitcher Sylvester Whitaker held up his part of the bargain, helping the Providence Pilgrims stymie the Squirrel Hill Pierogis, 4-2. Whitaker, now 1-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. The 6th-place Pilgrims are 12-15.
Oliwa Kileona went 1-2 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Providence. In a tie game with one out in the bottom of the sixth, Kileona came through with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the Pilgrims in front, 3-2.
Kileona called the win "what playing unselfish baseball looks like."
