Miners Win Streak Now at 6 After 5-2 Victory
Marquette starter Mike Schmitt had a strong outing against the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks at Thunder Hawks Ballpark. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-2 win. Schmitt, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing no runs. Marquette is now 6-3.

With runs few and far between, the Miners had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Marquette came in the top of the fourth inning, when catcher Weldon Gentry delivered a run-scoring single. The single was hit off Greg Lovell and made the score 1-0, Miners. Gentry went 1 for 4.

"I like the roll we're on right now," said Schmitt after the game.
