The Barton Springs Blues got a stellar performance from pitcher Fernando Rivera, who handcuffed the Pine Island offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Goodyear Hanger Dome. In 5 innings, Rivera surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. José Vargas earned the save for Barton Springs, his 14th.
Barton Springs relied on the bat of Drake McCormick to get the win. The designated hitter ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Blues ahead, 2-0. For the game, McCormick had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"Fernando -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Blues manager Joe Kehoe. "He was the key to us winning."
