The Virginia Beach Whales picked up a win at Rails Ballpark, knocking off the Richland Rails, 3-2. On the mound for Virginia Beach was right-hander Connor Drake, who played a pivotal role in the win. Drake went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 6, and struck out 3. His record improves to 1-1. The 8th-place Whales go to 39-45.

Esteban Reyes provided a timely hit. The Virginia Beach first baseman delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Whales on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.

"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Reyes told the Virginia Beach Gazette.
