The Dayton Dirty Reds picked up a win at The Strip, knocking off the Las Vegas Flamingos, 5-2. Starting pitcher Eugene Phillips was a big reason why. Phillips went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 6-7. Peter O'Farrell got credit for the save for Dayton. It was his 17th of the year.
Alonso Gómez had a key at-bat with one out in the top of the third for Dayton. With the bases loaded and the Dirty Reds leading 1-0, he hit a 2-run single.
In comments to the Dayton News, Gómez admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
The win makes Dayton 42-54.
