The Virginia Beach Whales had to overcome a good performance from Lake Murray pitcher Frank Gibbons to claim a 3-2 win at Heron Field. Gibbons went 5 innings and allowed 1 run. Virginia Beach reliever Michael Wright got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Héctor Salas was tagged with the loss. Éric Lemaire was credited with the save for Virginia Beach, his 1st of the season.

Dave Reid, the 23-year old catcher , had a direct impact on the outcome. Reid contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh inning to put Virginia Beach up, 3-1.

"I liked the focus, I liked the effort," said Whales manager Marv Bradford.

Lake Murray now is 2-3.
