The Bakersfield Nobles weathered a fine game by Sioux Falls left fielder Martín Pliego to upend the Red Pandas, 5-4, at The Bamboo Forest. Pliego went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. Bakersfield reliever Octávio Ortíz picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Carlos Rivas absorbed the loss. The second-place Nobles improved to 49-26.

Bakersfield used the timely hitting of Jean Kools to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Nobles ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"We found a way to get it done," Kools said.
