Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Starks
|
The Tortolita Drummers got a superb performance from pitcher Heath Brown. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Syracuse. The Starks won the game, 6-1. Brown threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The winner in relief was Mike Park. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. He now owns a record of 3-4. With the win over Tortolita, the Starks improved to 34-37.
Had Ramiro Rivera not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Rivera hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Starks.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Syracuse manager Gabriel Madrigal.
