Rocks Win in Glorious Fashion, 5-4
|
The Syracuse Starks got a sterling performance from pitcher Zebulon Pike, but the Plymouth Rocks still prevailed, 5-4. Pike threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball. Plymouth reliever Thad Parker was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Mario Méndez took the loss. With the win, the Rocks have a record of 28-19.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 4-4, center fielder Javier Caballero won it for Plymouth. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Caballero hit a 2-1 fastball from Mario Méndez for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 5-4 win.
"What a buzz," said Caballero after it was over.
