The Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys got a stellar performance from pitcher Steve Gourin, who handcuffed the Santa Barbara offense en route to a win, 3-2, at Crane Field. Ronald Love picked up the save for Syracuse, his 14th of the year. Syracuse now owns a record of 43-41.
Syracuse relied on the hitting of Pablo Hernández to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Squirrel Monkeys on top, 2-1. For the game, Hernández had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
In comments to the Syracuse Today, Hernández insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
