Starks Top Brass, 3-0, Behind Ward
|
The Syracuse Starks got a magnificent performance from pitcher Steve Ward, who muffled the Baton Rouge offense en route to a tight 3-0 Starks win at Brass Field. Mario Méndez got credit for the save for Syracuse. It was his 9th of the year. With the win, Syracuse pushed its record to 13-9.
Ward, who dominated for Syracuse, earned the victory to move to 1-1. He was in control the whole game, scattering 2 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 6. Baton Rouge batters could never bunch up enough hits to produce a rally.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Ward, "and go after the next one."
