Tritons Shut Out Marlins, 5-0
|
Jersey City used a superb performance from starting pitcher Damien Schmitt to down the Ft. Myers Marlins, 5-0. Schmitt, now 2-2, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Nathan Sims earned the save for Jersey City, his 3rd of the year.
The Tritons got an important contribution from first baseman Mike Joseph, who in the bottom of the first hit a fastball into left for a 2-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Tritons ahead, 3-0.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Joseph said after the game.
Jersey City now sits in 4th place in the Menard's AAA at 38-35.
