Austin got a first-rate effort from pitcher Zhong-shu Ang, who frustrated Vermont hitters en route to a 3-1 Black Mambas triumph at Mamba Park. Austin reliever Katsunosuki Hirayama picked up the win, while Jop Abeele took the loss for Vermont. Austin now sits at 34-32, while Vermont falls to 32-34.
Had Francisco Aguilar not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Aguilar hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Black Mambas.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Black Mambas manager Perry Bothof, "I like our chances."
