A good performance from shortstop Jon Rice helped the Syracuse Starks defeat the Pennsauken Flyers, 7-4. Rice was 2-2 with 2 singles and 2 walks for the Starks. Jorge Vázquez was the winner. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 2 hits, with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts. With the win, Syracuse elevates its record to 2-3.
The Starks got an important contribution from right fielder Bill Gatacre, who in the bottom of the second punched a 2-0 fastball into right for a bases-clearing triple. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the Starks ahead, 5-0.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Rice.
