Squirrel Monkeys Need Extra Innings to Top Lake Monsters, 2-1
|
The Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys managed to get by the Vermont Lake Monsters, 2-1, at The Zoo in Syracuse. Syracuse pitcher Bernard Miller set himself apart with his performance. The win brings the Squirrel Monkeys to 4-7, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
Syracuse won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With two outs and Jorge Santos on the mound for Vermont, pinch hitter Juan Pérez hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Squirrel Monkeys fans to their feet.
"This was a tough loss," said Vermont manager António García. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
