MSL Long Island Ballpark was the site for USSL Mexican Summer League action featuring the MSL Kingston Township Knights and MSL Long Island Lighthouse.
The MSL Long Island Lighthouse picked up a win at MSL Long Island Ballpark, taking down the MSL Kingston Township Knights, 6-3. Starting pitcher Carlos Guzmán was a big reason why. MSL Long Island reliever Alfredo López got the win, raising his record to 1-1. José Salazaro was tagged with the loss. Svatopluk Vejvoda, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 11th save.
The Lighthouse got a big at-bat from shortstop Jonas van Claveren, Jr.. For the game, van Claveren, Jr. was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 12th home run of the season gave MSL Long Island a 3-1 lead.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Guzmán said.
With the win, MSL Long Island raised its record to 22-21.
