Harbor Whales Fell Ducks, 5-2
|
The Greenport Harbor Whales faced a tough opponent in Long Island pitcher Cole Oliver, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Ducks Park by a final score of 5-2. Oliver went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Tony Pilcher, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 3 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 2-5. Greenport goes to 45-24. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.
Greenport used a clutch hit from Joseph Edwards to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Harbor Whales ahead, 5-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We've got a great group of guys," Edwards said, "and we're having fun right now."
