Cattlemen Knock Off 84s, 2-1
|
The Ft. Worth Cattlemen topped the Greenville 84s, 2-1, in United States Premier League action at 84s Field. The standout performance belonged to Ft. Worth pitcher and Palmdale, California, native Jeff McFarland. McFarland, now 1-0, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Ft. Worth, with the win, is 11-4.
With one out in the top of the seventh, Nestor Soliman had a game-changing hit. The Cattlemen catcher slammed a run-scoring single off Jorge Souza, making the score 2-0, Ft. Worth.
"Let's just say I'm happy we won," said McFarland. "There are a lot of people in the clubhouse who like to whine too much when we lose."
