Express Sink Music, 5-3
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Napanee Express and Memphis Music.
The Napanee Express topped the Memphis Music, 5-3, in USSL Low A action at Paints Ballpark. The standout performance belonged to Napanee pitcher and Osceola, Arkansas, native Carlos Rangel. In 5.1 innings, Rangel surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Express had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when first baseman Gus Swanson hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Álex Encarnación and made the score 4-2, Express. Swanson was 1 for 4.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Swanson told the Napanee Daily. "You win just by scoring more runs."
The 5th-place Express lifted their record to 11-10.
