The inspired effort of Eugene left fielder Jorge Ortíz was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-5, to the Caldwell Chiefs. Ortíz was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Joey Greco was called on to finish, recording his 10th save. At 17-18, the Chiefs find themselves in 8th place in the Silver A.

Caldwell took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and the bases loaded, Brad McGee stroked a 2-run single to make it 5-3, Chiefs.

In comments to the Caldwell Bulletin, McGee admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
