Mario Salinas pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Alameda Airmen, despite Salinas's fine outing, dropped a 3-1 decision to the Laredo Hawks at Alameda Field. The winner in relief was Jorge López. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The loss drops Alameda to 8-3.
Laredo took control in the top of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Lúcio García hit a run-scoring single to make it 2-1, Hawks.
Afterward, Hawks manager Troy Grant was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
