With catcher John Thomas leading the charge, the Chicago Tula defeated the Niagara Falls Expos, 9-5, at Waterfall Park. Thomas was 3-4 with 3 doubles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was Mark Phillips in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Eric Hewitt took the loss. With the victory, the Tula upped their record to 40-39.

Chicago left fielder Mike Joseph came through in the clutch. With two down in the top of the ninth, he hit a grand slam home run to catapult his team to the win.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Chicago skipper John Sirica.
