Hawks Need Extra Innings to Top Chiefs, 6-2
Pipers Ballpark was the site of the home opener for the Caldwell Chiefs. The contest featured a prime matchup between José Lewis of the visiting Laredo Hawks and Andy Roberson of the Chiefs. The final score was 6-2, the Hawks getting the win. Andy Roberson turned in the best performance.

The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Lúcio García came to bat in the top of the 12th. Facing Caldwell pitcher Joey Greco, he hit a 1-2 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Laredo on top, 3-2.

"I thought we played a nice game," García told the Laredo News. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
