The Yucca Valley Yellows and Matlacha Manatees were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Matlacha Manatees took Yucca Valley pitcher Ken Leuthold's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Ballpark of Yucca Valley. The final score had Matlacha getting past the Yellows, 6-4. Leuthold went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 5. Matlacha reliever Jed Chandler was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Sean Reed.
Miguel Ayaly broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the Manatees in front, 5-4. For the game, Ayaly drove in one run.
"We'll enjoy this win for now, but it's just one," Ayaly told local reporters. "We've got to keep it going."
With this game in the books, Matlacha is 9-18, Yucca Valley 11-16.
