Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Ithaca Fighting Imps and the Billings Polar Bears. Ithaca won it, 2-1. Ithaca starter Naveed Firdausi was in command. Denny Schneider earned the save, his 23rd, for the Fighting Imps. The third-place Fighting Imps lifted their record to 42-30.

Firdausi made it look effortless. He scattered 3 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 9 strikeouts. The Ithaca right-hander encountered little resistance from the Billings hitters. His season record is now 6-5.

"Every loss hurts," said Billings manager Steve Ferguson. "But this was a tough one."
