Fading Polar Bears Lose 8th Straight
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles did just enough to sneak past the Billings Polar Bears, 4-3, at Mercer Island Grounds. Mercer Island pitcher Morgan Cartier, in particular, had a standout performance. Aaron Houghton, now 2-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3.1 innings. The Polar Bears, at 6-29, have lost 8 in a row.

The game ended with a bang. In the bottom of the ninth, with Mercer Island trailing 3-2, Gilberto Silva jumped on a full count fastball from Huibrecht Brouwers for a 2-run home run, sending the Screaming Eagles to a walk-off win.

"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Cartier said.
