Screaming Eagles Topple Thunder, 10-5, as Pérez Shines
|
Mercer Island took on St. Petersburg in front of a lively crowd.
Francisco Pérez left his imprint on the 10-5 Mercer Island win against the St. Petersburg Thunder. Pérez, who is tied for 4th in the PAA in runs scored with 17, went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Roy Roberts got the win, improving to 1-1. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run, while striking out 2 and walking 0.
Mercer Island relied on the hitting of Chris Cates to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Screaming Eagles on top, 3-0. For the game, Cates had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Francisco is still learning," said Screaming Eagles manager Ricardo Vargas. "The sky's the limit for him."
The Screaming Eagles' win now puts them at 16-8.
