Screaming Eagles Trip Thunder, 3-1
|
Mercer Island used a superb performance from starting pitcher Nick Johnston to down the St. Petersburg Thunder, 3-1. Johnston, the winner, moves to 4-0. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. The save was credited to Jorge Vásquez, his 3rd.
Milo Hamilton, the 24-year old second baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Hamilton contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put Mercer Island up, 1-0.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Mercer Island skipper Ricardo Vargas.
The third-place Screaming Eagles are now 14-8, the Thunder 10-12.
