Highlanders Edge Ft. Polk South in Pitching Duel
|
Asheville Highlanders starter Dale Burney hurled his team past the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks, 1-0. Burney, the winner, moves to 3-0. He threw 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. Their 12-9 record puts the Highlanders 4th in the Premier AA.
The Highlanders got an important contribution from left fielder John Weber, who in the bottom of the fifth hit a 0-2 curveball into left for a run-scoring double. It was his 6th double of the season and put the Highlanders ahead, 1-0.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Burney. "Successful pitchers do it."
