The Minnesota Loons got a stellar effort from pitcher Ashley Remington, helping Minnesota score a win over the visiting St. Petersburg Thunder, 3-1. Júlio Martínez finished to wrap up his 2nd save. The victory makes Minnesota 9-11.

The Thunder had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Loons going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old shortstop Jorge Gavilanes came to the plate. Gavilanes hit a 2-run home run on a 0-1 fastball from St. Petersburg hurler Alfonso Escamilla. It was Gavilanes's 2nd home run of the year.

"Ashley did a tremendous job," said Minnesota manager Eddie O'Bryan.
