The Squirrel Hill Pierogis had to overcome a good performance from Ft. Polk South pitcher Jorge Salas to claim a 3-2 win at Thunder Hawks Ballpark. Salas went 5 innings and allowed 1 run. Carlos Vázquez, now 1-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. The win lifts Squirrel Hill to a record of 7-4.
Squirrel Hill needed the clutch hitting of Grover Cleveland to notch the win. The right fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pierogis on top, 3-2. For the game, Cleveland had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Ft. Polk South manager Mike Evans.
