Screaming Eagles Fall, 10-4, to Stansberry, Fighting Imps
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles inaugurated the 2054 campaign with a disappointing 10-4 loss to the Ithaca Fighting Imps at Mercer Island Grounds. Ithaca center fielder Darryl Stansberry had a big impact on the outcome. He went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Wan-hua Yi was the winning pitcher. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. The save was credited to Shigetoki Kato, his 1st.

The Fighting Imps got an important contribution from third baseman Paul Johnston, who in the top of the third hit a first pitch sinker into left for a grand slam home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Fighting Imps ahead, 7-0.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Ithaca skipper Albert Pérez.
