The Olympia Ogres took Virginia Beach pitcher Jim McKee's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Virginia Beach Grounds. The final score had Olympia getting past the Whales, 6-2. McKee went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 3. Olympia reliever Ronald Reynolds picked up the win, raising his record to 6-1. Mark McMinn was tagged with the loss. The win gives Olympia a season record of 47-40.

Olympia used the timely hitting of Mal McGrath to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Ogres on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"They played a better game than we did," said Virginia Beach skipper Marv Bradford.
