The Providence Pilgrims picked up a win at Virginia Beach Grounds, knocking off the Virginia Beach Whales, 7-4. Starting pitcher Felipe Cardona played a key role in the triumph. In 6.2 innings, Cardona surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. The last-place Pilgrims have a record of 26-37.
Providence used a well-timed hit by Ray Reed to capture the win. The second baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the third inning to put the Pilgrims ahead, 4-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Cardona told the Providence Citizen. "You win just by scoring more runs."
