The Bethesda Atoms did just enough to sneak past the Virginia Beach Whales, 2-1, at Virginia Beach Grounds. Bethesda pitcher Álex López, in particular, had a standout performance. López went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 2-2. Felipe González recorded his 11th save for Bethesda.

Bethesda took the lead in the top of the sixth. With two out and the bases empty, Adrián García stroked a solo home run to make it 2-1, Atoms.

"If you ever get this game figured out," said Virginia Beach manager Marv Bradford, "let me know."

Today's win puts Bethesda at 22-23, while Virginia Beach falls to 19-26.
