Whales Get One-Run Win at Providence
|
The Virginia Beach Whales topped the Providence Pilgrims, 2-1, in USSL Double A action at Field of Plenty. The standout performance belonged to Virginia Beach pitcher and Alameda, California, native Jim McKee. Carlos Mejía, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 4th save. The Pilgrims, now 3-10, continue their inauspicious start.
Jesús Rivera, the 24-year old first baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Rivera contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put Virginia Beach up, 1-0.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Providence manager Justin Moore, "let me know."
